Qigong (chee gong) is an ancient Chinese health care system that was developed before the written word in Chinese monasteries, hospitals and imperial courts. It integrates movements, breathing techniques, focus attention and self applied massage. Qigong means cultivating or working with energy and is practiced for health maintenance, increased vitality and inner peace.
I had the privilege to be exposed to Yoga and Tai Chi early in my life (in my 20ies) and it led me to appreciate also Qigong, which I discovered in 2003, and started to practice regularly in 2008.
Tai Chi and Qigong are both a meditation in movement, which benefits the whole body in a series of flowing moves that are not held. They activate the flow of energy, unblock stuck energy and restore it. They awaken the Healer Within through a good posture, a deeper breath and a focus inward, which helps the balance, stimulates the brain and calms the mind.
Qigong's great appeal is that anyone can benefit from practicing it, from the very young to the very old. The movements are easy to learn. They can be performed standing, sitting or lying down, and can be adapted for physical limitations. No special equipment or clothing is required.
